A Note on Imagination, Motherhood, and the Stories We Carry
At AJ Studio, we often talk about creativity as more than a skill — it’s a way of seeing, questioning, and reshaping the world around us. It’s in the choices we make, the questions we ask, and the stories we feel brave enough to explore.

In our classrooms, this shows up in many forms: a quiet moment of experimentation, a bold visual decision, or a child asking what if I try it this way instead? But beyond the studio, we are constantly inspired by artists and companies who hold that same space for thoughtful, challenging, and courageous creative work.
One of those companies is Red Leap Theatre.
One of those companies is Red Leap Theatre.

Red Leap’s work sits at the intersection of visual storytelling, movement, and imagination. Their productions are often wordless, always striking, and deeply committed to pushing the boundaries of what theatre can say — and how it can say it. Their stories are not always easy. But they’re always necessary.
It’s a privilege for our founder, Alice, to serve on the board of Red Leap — not only to support their work behind the scenes, but to stand alongside a team of creatives who also believe in slow thinking, visual literacy, and taking risks in service of meaning.

Their upcoming production, Wrest, is a surreal, genre-bending piece that explores early motherhood through dance, theatre, and haunting visual design. It’s not a show for young children, but it will speak to many of the mothers in our community — those who have moved through identity shifts, unspoken emotions, and the quiet tension between self and responsibility.
If that resonates with you, you can read more about the show here:

As always, we’re reminded that creativity isn’t just about what we make. It’s about the stories we choose to sit with, the ones we’re still learning how to tell, and the courage it takes to tell them anyway.
