Creative Flow is developed by our founder and educators who teach visual art to Years 9 to 13 in schools, so the guidance here aligns with what NCEA boards are actually assessed on. It works best alongside a structured course, where techniques are learnt each week; Creative Flow is where you put them to work on your own work!

Prepay ten sessions and receive your card. Come to any session that suits your week, Monday, Thursday or Saturday, and your tutor stamps it each visit. No weekly commitment and nothing to catch up. Frequently asked questions
Is Creative Flow a class? Will my child actually be taught?
There is a Studio tutor in the room for the whole session, working with every student. What is different is the direction: instead of everyone following one lesson, the teaching follows each student's own project. Your child gets guidance, technical help and honest feedback on the work that matters to them.
What should they bring?

The materials their project needs. Easels, tables and studio basics are ours.

So is it just supervised free time?

No. Every student works on a project plan with their tutor, and each session starts with a goal and ends with progress checked against that goal. It is closer to how a working artist's studio runs than to a drop-in art room.

My child is in one of your courses. Should they switch to Creative Flow?

They work best together. Courses are where new techniques are learnt each week; Creative Flow is where they get used on your child's own work. If you are wondering about the right mix, talk to us — we know your child's work and will give you candid advice. Current AJ Studio students enrol at the member rate.

What if my child doesn't know what to make?

That is a normal starting point. In the first session, the tutor helps scope a project that is ambitious but finishable: a school board, a painting, a portfolio piece for your Level 2 and 3 NCEA boards. Choosing well is part of what we teach.

My child is Year 8. Can they join?

Creative Flow starts at Year 9. For younger students, our structured courses are the right place, and Rising Creatives is the pathway for advanced Year 8s.

Can they bring school artwork?

Yes, and many will. We coach NCEA Level 2 and Level 3 boards with confidence.

What happens to unused sessions at the end of term?

Your pass is valid for Term 3 plus a two-week grace period. Up to two unused sessions can carry over into the following term; just let us know before the term ends. Passes are personal to the enrolled student and cannot be shared or transferred.

How does the pass work?

Prepay ten sessions and receive your Creative Flow card. Come to any session that suits your week: Monday 4.30–6.30 pm, Thursday 5–7 pm or Saturday 12–2 pm. Your tutor stamps the card each visit. No weekly commitment, and nothing to catch up on if you miss a week; your sessions simply wait for you. Your card is valid for 11 weeks.
